A Special Guest (2016)
Starring the award winning Anita Dobson (EastEnders, London Road) and Paul Copley (Downtown Abbey, Hornblower), 'A Special Guest' follows young Ako as he spends an afternoon with the elderly neighbours next door.
Writing the music for 'A Special Guest' was great fun. The film journeys through so many states of emotion, continuously jumping between each character's perspective and shifting in dynamic as we come to discover each of their own personal tragedies. I also had the privilege of writing an original song for Anita Dobson's character, Audrey, which is sung and played on the piano. The song 'When the Show Began', plays an integral part to the story and as well as featuring in the narrative of the film, we also professionally recorded a second version of the song, which plays over the end credits of the film.
The film has only just hit the film festival circuit, but has already won it's first award, the 'Jury's Special Mention Award' in Short of the Year - Madrid, Spain.
Synopsis: Long held memories of grief and the ramifications of war collide when 10 year old refugee Ako is persuaded to spend an afternoon with his elderly English neighbours.
